LITed - LITURGY EDUCATION NEWS

The Gift of Christian Hope

Greetings to all from Liturgy Brisbane.

This edition of LitEd is devoted to the gift of Christian hope, which is quite distinct from common usages of the word hope which might refer to a wish or fervent desire that something will go well. Rather, Christian hope refers to a future certainty or expectation grounded in the resurrection of Christ.

In the lead up to this holy year of Jubilee, Pope Francis had much to say about hope. On the feast of the Ascension last year, he remarked:

Each of us needs hope in our lives, at times so weary and wounded, our hearts that thirst for truth, goodness and beauty, and our dreams that no darkness can dispel. Everything, within and outside of us, cries out for hope and continues to seek the closeness of God, even without knowing it.
May the Lord, risen from the dead and ascended into heaven, grant us the grace to rediscover hope,... to proclaim hope and to build hope.

This issue of LitEd provides a range of insightful articles which explore hope and its expression through liturgical events and throughout the liturgical year.
We hope you enjoy pondering the great riches offered by the authors of these articles.

Hope Emerged Unbreakable

The Hope of Lent

Diane M. Houdek explore  the hope of the Lenten season, and reflects on the hallmark of unceasing mercy and hope which has characterised the pontificate of Pope Francis and which underpins the Jubilee Year.

Pope Francis encourages all Christians to bring the love of Jesus to others, even if it means taking a risk,
because in this way we bring hope to those who are most in need of it.

This Jubilee Hymn can work well in schools and in parishes.
It is easy to learn with simple rhythms and a singable melodic range.
