LITed - LITURGY EDUCATION NEWS

Saints and Souls

Greetings to all from Liturgy Brisbane.

Traditionally, November is the month during which Catholics remember the dead.

We pray that our loved ones, and all those who have died, will through the mercy of God rest in peace.

Our articles in this edition reflect on the importance of praying for the faithful departed and emphasise the importance of teaching children about the Catholic tradition of the saints.

Also included are the links to key liturgical publications for 2022 such as the Ordo, Praying Together with Young People,
Break Open the Word and the Daily Mass Book.

With very best wishes from all of us at Liturgy Brisbane.

Praying Together With Young People

A daily prayer resource designed to help teachers, parents and catechists to lead prayer with a class or family. Also includes an electronic flip-book version of the book for easy display on screens.

The structure of the prayer for each weekday is the same so that prayer time becomes a familiar routine, leading children into a liturgical pattern of responses. Responses to the gospel reading for each day include intercessions, songs, guided meditations, short video clips or silent prayer. Hyperlinks in the electronic version of the resource provide easy access to online reflections.

Sample pages are available to view on the Liturgy Brisbane website.

Break Open the Word

Break Open the Word, the Book for Readers, gives the readings and psalms for each Sunday with a commentary designed to provide not only background to the text but assistance on how to proclaim it.

The 2022 edition of Break Open the Word includes completely new commentary material for Year C and a new section entitled 'The Ministry of Reader'.

The popular pronunciation guide is also included.

ORDO

The official Ordo for Australia and New Zealand is an indispensable reference for liturgy planning and is a requirement in every sacristy and church office.

Parishes around Australia are in for a surprise when they receive this year’s ORDO. It will be significantly bigger (B5).
At the request of the National Liturgical Commission, it will now include not only the Scripture references for the daily readings, but also the tagline to each reading. These phrases, provided in red at the beginning of each reading in the Lectionary, are a guide to the content of each reading. In addition the Ordo will include the psalm reference and psalm response, along with the Gospel acclamation for each day.

This will make the Ordo a more useful resource for musicians, readers and others who prepare the liturgy. The special days of commemoration assigned by the Holy See or the bishops conference, previously included in a list at the end of the book, will now also be included in the body of the text.
To maintain its ease of use, however, features of the ORDO which have become familiar over the last thirty years will be retained. As far as possible the design will maintain a week-to-an-opening. The general structure, layout and spiral binding will also be kept.
