Greetings to all from Liturgy Brisbane.
As Australia unites with the rest of the world in responding to the outbreak of COVID-19, we are reminded strongly of our global solidarity with the universal Church. While our work in the area of liturgical preparation and celebration often focuses on local parish communities and schools, the spread of the Coronavirus reminds us that we are members of a global human family and that there is very little separation between us.
In this issue of LitEd, we recall the fundamental premise of the liturgical event as an action of the entire Body of Christ, in which we stand with Christian communities in every part of the world.
In light of the recent restrictions on gatherings of more than 100 people in Australia, we have made available the weekly readings and commentaries from
Break Open the Word for use at home. While people may watch a Mass on TV, it might be better to read the Scriptures aloud with the family and talk about them together. The links to this material can be found below. These common Lectionary readings serve as another reminder that we are members of one Body who are always united in Christ, even in circumstances of physical isolation.
Best wishes from Tom Elich and Clare Schwantes

Articles on Solidarity and Unity
Communion to Those who Self-IsolateThe most vulnerable in the community have been advised to self-isolate to protect themselves from the Coronavirus. With the increasing need to take Communion to people in their homes, this printable sheet contains a simple rite of Communion of the Sick as well as some additional prayers and scripture readings. It may be possible, for example, that family members might bring holy communion to elderly parents or relatives.

Peace and SolidarityNatural disasters can bring out the best in humankind as people bond together for the common good. However, the Coronavirus has also given rise to selfish and irrational behaviour as people endeavour to protect themselves and their families. Nations, too, are imposing measures to protect their own citizens with very few attempts at coordinated action across continents. In this article, Tom Elich reflects on the ways that peace and solidarity are embedded in the liturgical action which unites Christian communities around the world.

United to Christ We Are Never Alone
Gerard O'Connell, the Vatican correspondent for America - The Jesuit Review, reflects on the words of Pope Francis to those in isolation throughout the entire world. The message of Pope Francis reassures us of our unity with Christ and the universal Church in these unsettling times.
