Greetings to all from Liturgy Brisbane.
In this edition, we look ahead!
The first article addresses two upcoming Solemnities that will fall on Saturdays in August, the second canvasses ideas about how to bring people back to Mass amidst competing secular activities, and the third highlights new ways to connect with seekers and catechumens through an ongoing RCIA.
Also coming up next month, is an initiative called Flashes of Insight, started in response to the COVID-19 liturgical lockdown and linked to the material published through La Croix International. Professor Tom O’Loughlin will present three seminars on August 6th, 13th and 20th at 5:00pm (AEST).
We recommend this seminar to you and have provided the details below.

Vatican Instruction on the Reform of Catholic Parishes
On July 20, The Vatican' Congregation for Clergy issued a 22 page document entitled "The Pastoral Conversion of the Parish Community in the Service of the Evangelising Mission of the Church".
A summary of the document can be found on the Catholic News Agency Website.
JD Flynn from the Catholic News Agency has provided a helpful article entitled "Vatican Issues New Guidelines for Parishes: 5 Things You Need To Know".
The instruction has continued to stir debate in Germany where some bishops argue that the current parish model is no longer viable due to a lack of vocations. An interesting summary of the various arguments from the German bishops can be found in an article from Crux contributed by Catholic News Service.
NEW WEEKLY RESOURCES FROM LITURGY BRISBANE
When the Covid-19 lockdown hit four months ago, it was sudden. We thought our best response was to send parishes simple, consistent resources which they could send on to their families. In this way, we have tried to encourage real reflection on the Sunday readings and real prayer in the home. We know that very many parishes have appreciated it.
These resources continue to be available on our website.
Liturgy Brisbane is an agency of the Archdiocese of Brisbane, but is entirely self-funding. We would like to continue sending you these resources indefinitely but we need your support. We will keep making these available free of charge until the end of August. From September onwards, we are asking you to pay a small annual subscription to keep us going.
The "Family Prayer" resource will be renamed "Praying with Children - Sunday Liturgy". It will feature additional material from September, including music for gathering, for a psalm, and for a gospel acclamation which can be played from the website. Lyrics will be provided. The downloadable sheets will still be provided as well, of course, in the same format as over the past weeks. This resource is suitable not only for families at home but also for Children’s Liturgy of the Word celebrated at Sunday Mass in the parish.
For less than five dollars a week you can get both these resources sent weekly by email so that you can forward them on to all parishioners. The weekly email from parishes to families will continue to be an important tool for evangelisation long after the COVID crisis has ended.
Liturgy News is a seasonal periodical from Liturgy Brisbane. A sixteen-page journal, printed in colour, the magazine is sent to subscribers either in hard copy or electronic form at the end of each quarter. This year marks the 50th anniversary of Liturgy News. In 2020, our covers feature four people from Australia and the Pacific who are travelling the path to sainthood. The Autumn cover features Dr Sr Mary Glowrey, a medical doctor who became a religious sister and lived much of her life in India. Each issue features commentary and insight from Australia's leading liturgists. Written for parishes, schools, experts and novices, Liturgy News is an essential tool for anyone working in liturgy! The complete index is searchable on the Liturgy Brisbane website, and back issues from 2001 onwards are available as PDF downloads.
