Greetings to all from Liturgy Brisbane.
As restrictions begin to lift across Australia, there is a sense of eager anticipation for the return to Mass.
Some parishes are having Mass for 20, some for 30, and some for up to 100.
These months of abstinence have given us time to reflect on our experiences of Eucharist and have highlighted the integral place of the liturgy in our lives. The first article in this edition of LITed is from Pope Francis, who explores the notion of Eucharist as God's memorial into which we are all invited. The second item is a link to a recent interview with three leading liturgists on what has been possible during this time of virtual liturgies. Finally, while some of us have found it strange to celebrate liturgy with only a handful of people, Sr Gerri Boylan's article explains how this is the normal weekly occurrence for people in remote areas of Australia.
As the Easter Vigil could not take place this year, the Archdiocese of Brisbane has proposed a modified pathway for celebrating the Sacraments of Initiation for adults. Links to this RCIA roadmap are provided as part of this LITed edition. You will also find a link to a new hymn written by Michael Joncas, in response to the health crisis, Shelter Me.
Let us continue to pray for each other.
Best wishes from Tom Elich and Clare Schwantes

Articles on Eucharist as Living Memory
Memory is not Something PrivatePope Francis reminds us that memory is not something private; it is the path that unites us to God and to others. In the Eucharist, God's memorial, we feel part of a living history, the living experience of a people.

The Middle of NowhereSr Gerri Boylan writes of her ministry in the parish of Mt Magnet, WA. In recent months, many of us have experienced for the first time what it is like to attend liturgy with only a few other people. However, this is not uncommon for those living in remote areas of our vast country.

Roadmap for RCIA
The recent restrictions due to COVID-19 have prevented many significant church ceremonies over the last three months. The most significant was the Easter Vigil when the Elect in our catechumenate would have received the sacraments of Initiation, and our candidates would have been received into full communion.
As the COVID-19 restrictions are easing, communities are once again able to gather.
We are now able to plan the steps – a new roadmap – for the initiation for our Elect and the reception of our candidates into full communion.
The Archdiocese has suggested three Sundays in July for the celebration of the scrutinies and the first Sunday of August for the Sacraments of Initiation, as it may be symbolic to have parishes celebrating these rites at the same time. The readings for each of the chosen Sundays are particularly appropriate for initiation. Please note that candidates for full reception into the Church can be received at any time that is pastorally and liturgically appropriate.
A liturgy has been prepared for each of these Sundays which can be used in parishes where there are members of the Elect preparing for the Sacraments of Initiation. These liturgies are available on the Liturgy Brisbane website at https://www.liturgybrisbane.net.au/prepare/rcia-sacraments-of-initiation-2020-archdiocesan-roadmap/.
