Greetings to all from Liturgy Brisbane.
The articles in this issue of LITed explore key principles of liturgical music and address some of the more frequent questions that we receive here at Liturgy Brisbane. The possibility of embedding music into PowerPoint slides raises questions about the legalities of such a process, and, similarly, clarification is often required in response to questions of copyright in the realm of church music.
An article on each of these topics is included in the current edition of LITed.
In addition, a comprehensive document is included which describes the function of music in the liturgy, the range of song forms that make up the Mass, the priority of each of these parts for singing and the criteria for selecting repertoire .
The final article tackles the all-too-familiar challenge of balancing the need to conserve the musical heritage of the Church with the requirement for the active participation of the assembly in singing the Mass.
Also provided, is a downloadable document entitled Music in the Liturgy: Principles and Practice which we hope will be of great help to those involved in liturgical music ministry.
We hope you enjoy this edition of LITed.
Please feel free to contact us at Liturgy Brisbane with any liturgical questions and we'll be happy to help you.
Blessings and very best wishes from all of us.

Music in the Liturgy - Principles and Practice
This document, until now only found in Liturgia, is a wonderful overview to the place of music in the liturgical event. It explores the principle of progressive solemnity, sets out the four judgments for arriving at an evaluation for whether a piece of music is suitable for the liturgy, and offers some important considerations for choosing music for Mass. It also contains a list of seasonal psalms for which musical settings can be found.

CHILDREN'S MASS BOOK NOW AVAILABLE
This publication gives children all the texts which the assembly say or sing, along with short and easy-to-understand descriptions of what is happening. Illustrations have been drawn from the child’s perspective, and emphasise that Mass is not something the priest is doing, but something that the priest is leading the people in doing. The liturgy is conveyed as a joyful event for families and communities to participate in together. Click here to learn more |
